Why I'm Running for Brevard City Council

Updated: Jul 30, 2025

Some places just never leave you. For me, that place is Brevard. My story begins right here in Brevard. This is the place where I grew up. Where I learned what it means to be part of a community. For example, I was fortunate enough to earn the rank of Eagle Scout in a local Boy Scout troop, guided by leaders and mentors who taught me service, discipline, and the value of giving back. Brevard has helped shaped me and I’ve never forgotten that.

After high school, I was blessed with the opportunity to attend the University of Notre Dame on a football scholarship. That's were I learned the value of team, always set high standards and that acheiving success begins with a clear vision. It was a dream come true, and it opened doors to experiences I never imagined, including the chance to play professionally in the Canadian Football League. I spent several years living and working in Canada, but Brevard was always home. My family remained here, and I returned often, never forgetting where I came from. Now I’ve moved back for good and I’m running for Brevard City Council because I believe in this community’s future.

Understanding the Brevard's Needs

There’s so much to love about Brevard, but I’ve also seen how things have changed. Too many families are struggling to afford housing. Too many young people feel they have to leave town to build a future. And some members of our community still feel left out of the conversation.

I've listened to members of the community and understand what it means for them want to feel seen, heard, and valued. I’m running to make sure every resident feels like they belong in Brevard and has a voice in shaping where we go from here.

Some of my initial thoughts on areas of focus as a City Council member:

  • Create pathways to good jobs so that working people can afford to live and thrive here.

  • Invest in youth development, mentorship, and opportunities that give young people a reason to stay—or come back home like I did.

  • Build a community that’s inclusive, where everyone—regardless of background—feels welcome, represented, and part of the future.

This campaign isn’t about politics, it’s about people. It's about building a better Brevard, together.

Over the coming weeks, I’ll continue to meet with more members of the community and share more about my vision, listening to your concerns, and doing the work that a good council member should do: show up, listen well, and lead with integrity.

I invite you to join this journey. Whether it’s putting up a yard sign, knocking on doors, or simply sharing your story, I want to hear from you. Together, let’s make Brevard a city where everyone can thrive.

Let’s do this.

Hi Dean-

My name is Lisa Rodke. I am having a back porch BBQ on Saturday Sept 6th at 3 pm at my house at 420 Whitmire St.

I would like to invite you to join Maureen Copelof and Aaron Baker at my Meet and Greet. I am also planning to invite Doug Miller.

I am just guessing that Royce and Randy might be your brothers. My house has a ramp and my back porch is wheelchair accessible. It would be great if they could come too.

My cell phone is 828-384-9063 and my email is Lrodcepts@yahoo.com. I work MWF from 9-4 and cannot talk but I can get texts or emails. I hooe you can come
